Vocabulary Learning

The 'Too' Pattern

In the text, we see: "Taxis and Uber are too expensive"

When we use too + word, it means it is more than we want. It is usually a problem.

Examples from real life:

  • The coffee is too hot\text{too hot} \rightarrow I cannot drink it.
  • The room is too small\text{too small} \rightarrow I cannot fit my bed.
  • The ticket is too expensive\text{too expensive} \rightarrow I have no money.

Comparing Things

Look at how the text compares two things: "NJ Transit is better because..."

We don't say "more good." We say better.

  • Slow \rightarrow Better (Fast/Easy)
  • Bad \rightarrow Better
  • Expensive \rightarrow Better (Cheaper)
