Australia Allows Two Farm Chemicals

Introduction

A government group called APVMA says farmers can still use two chemicals called paraquat and diquat. But farmers must follow new, strict rules.

Main Body

The APVMA looked at these chemicals for a long time. Some countries in Europe banned them. However, Australia says there is not enough proof that these chemicals cause Parkinson's disease. They know the chemicals can hurt birds, animals, and workers.

Now, farmers must use much less of these chemicals. They cannot use backpack sprayers. They must use special machines and wear safety clothes to stay safe.

Some doctors are angry. They say these chemicals are dangerous for the brain. But farmers say they need these chemicals to keep the soil healthy and stop weeds.

Conclusion

Paraquat and diquat are still legal in Australia. But farmers must use less and be more careful.
