⚡ The 'Action' Pattern

Look at how we describe things happening right now or in a general way. This is the most useful tool for A2 students to describe events.

The Pattern: Person/Group \rightarrow Action Word \rightarrow Target

Examples from the text:

  • The court \rightarrow sent \rightarrow leaders to prison.
  • The government \rightarrow puts \rightarrow pressure on families.
  • One leader \rightarrow asked \rightarrow the UN for help.

Quick Rule: When we talk about one person (He/She/The Government), we often add an -s to the action word in the present.

  • Correct: The government hurts families.
  • Incorrect: The government hurt families. (Unless it happened in the past!)
