⚡ The 'Action' Switch

In the text, we see how to talk about things that already happened versus things that are true now.

Past (Finished) \rightarrow Present (Now)

  • took \rightarrow take
  • stopped \rightarrow stop
  • lost \rightarrow lose
  • happened \rightarrow happen
  • fell \rightarrow fall

Quick Rule: When you see -ed at the end (like stopped), the action is over. If there is no -ed and it is a simple word (like stop), it is usually happening now or is a general fact.

Example from the news: "A man fell (Past) into a water tank." \rightarrow He is not falling now; it is over.
