💡 The Power of 'ING'

In this story, we see a very useful pattern for A2 learners. When we describe things happening right now or ongoing, we add -ing to the action word.

Look at these examples from the text:

  • Investigating \rightarrow The police are investigating him.
  • Checking \rightarrow The court is checking the case.

How to use it: Person + am/is/are + Action-ing

Why it matters: If you say "The police investigate," it sounds like a general fact. If you say "The police are investigating," it means it is happening at this very moment. This is the secret to sounding more natural in English!
