⚡ The "Action" Pattern

Look at how this story describes things that happened. It uses Simple Past verbs. This is the most important tool for A2 students to tell a story.

1. Regular Words (Add -ed) These are easy. Just add 'ed' to the end:

  • Ask \rightarrow Asked
  • Happen \rightarrow Happened

2. Irregular Words (Change completely) These are tricky. You must memorize them:

  • Be \rightarrow Were / Was
  • Fall \rightarrow Fell
  • Say \rightarrow Said

3. The "Negative" Trick To say something did NOT happen, use did not + the base word:

  • Example: "Planes could not land" (Special case for ability).
  • Example: "Venezuela does not have" (This is present time).

Quick Tip: When you see "Many people died" or "Buildings fell", the writer is giving you the 'What' and the 'Result' very quickly. Keep your sentences short to be clear like this article.
