Vocabulary Learning

The Power of "DO NOT"

In the story, we see a pattern used to show a lack of action or a disagreement. This is a key step for A2 learners to describe problems.

The Pattern: Person/Group + do not + Action \rightarrow Something is missing or wrong.

Examples from the text:

  • The players... do not agree.
  • One player did not wear.
  • The team does not respect.

Quick Tip: Use "do not" for many people (The players) and "does not" for one thing or person (The team).

Simple Word Swap:

  • Agree \rightarrow Say yes \rightarrow Do not agree (Say no)
  • Respect \rightarrow Be kind to \rightarrow Does not respect (Not kind)
