The Power of "Did Not"

In the text, we see: "They did not make the big playoffs" and "He did not go to Penn State."

When we talk about the past and want to say something is false/no, we use this pattern:

Person/Thing \rightarrow did not \rightarrow Action (Basic Form)

  • Wrong: He did not went. (X)
  • Right: He did not go. (✓)

Word Grouping: The "New" Connection

Look at how the author uses the word "new" to describe different things. This is a great way to build A2 sentences by adding a describing word before a person or a plan:

  • New \rightarrow plans
  • New \rightarrow coaches
  • New \rightarrow leader

Tip: Put the describing word first, then the thing. Example: New shoes, New city, New coach.
