Vocabulary Learning

⚡ The 'Beat' Pattern

In sports, we use the word beat to show who won. It is simple: [Winner] beat [Loser].

  • The Astros beat the Tigers.
  • The Rangers beat the Blue Jays.

🕰️ Talking about the Past

Notice how the story describes things that already happened. We add -ed to the end of the action word:

  • Play \rightarrow Played
  • Try \rightarrow Tried

Example: "Tatsuya Imai played very well."

🚫 Saying 'No' in the Past

When we want to say something did NOT happen, we use did not + the basic action word (no -ed!).

  • They did not win.
  • He did not play.

Wait! Look at the difference:

  • Positive: They won.
  • Negative: They did not win.
