🛠️ Word Pairing: 'Stop' + Action
In this text, we see how to use stopped to show that an activity ended. It is a very useful pattern for A2 students to describe disruptions.
The Pattern:
Subject + stopped + Verb-ing
Examples from the text:
- Toyota and Nissan → stopped making cars.
- Trains and planes → stopped working.
Why this helps you: Instead of saying "The cars are not made," you can use stopped making to show that the action was happening, but then it ended.
Try these simple swaps:
- I stopped eating → (I don't eat it anymore)
- It stopped raining → (The rain is gone)
- He stopped talking → (He is quiet now)
