💡 Spotting 'Past' vs 'Present'

Look at how the story changes time. This is the key to A2 English.

1. The Past (It already happened) Notice the words ending in -ed. These tell us the event is finished:

  • had \rightarrow had (special case)
  • used \rightarrow used
  • posted \rightarrow posted

2. The Present (It is happening now) Notice the words for things that are true right now:

  • does not help \rightarrow does not help
  • has \rightarrow has
  • is changing \rightarrow is changing

🛠️ Simple Sentence Building

To move to A2, stop using long sentences. Use the Subject + Verb + Object pattern found in the text:

  • The team (Who) \rightarrow put (Action) \rightarrow the word (What).
  • Heidi (Who) \rightarrow spoke (Action) \rightarrow to the news (Where/Who).

Pro Tip: If you want to say something didn't happen, just add did not before the action:

  • did not show \rightarrow (The picture was empty).
