The Power of 'S'

Look at how we talk about one person. When we talk about someone else (He/She), we often add an -s to the action word.

  • Donald Trump likes him. (Trump = He)
  • Byron Donalds is leading... (Donalds = He)
  • He has cancer. (He = He)

Simple Rule: One Person \rightarrow add -s (or use 'has'/'is').

Words for People

In this text, we see names and labels. Notice how they switch:

  • Names: Byron Donalds, Joe Biden, Jay Collins.
  • Groups: Republicans, Democrats.

If you don't know the name, use the group. Example: "Republicans are choosing a leader" \rightarrow "They are choosing a leader."

'Bad' vs 'Not the best'

Notice the difference in feeling:

  1. "Bad leader" \rightarrow Strong, negative.
  2. "Not the best choice" \rightarrow Softer, polite negative.

Use "not the best" when you want to be a bit more careful with your words.
