In this story, we see a pattern to talk about things that did not happen in the past.

The Rule: To say "no" about the past, use: did not + action word.

  • They did not wear seatbelts. \rightarrow (They were not wearing them)
  • They did not drink alcohol. \rightarrow (They were sober)

💡 Top Tip for A2 Learners: Notice that we don't change the action word.

Incorrect: They did not wore. ✅ Correct: They did not wear.

Even if the event happened yesterday, did not does all the heavy lifting. The action word stays in its simple, present form.
