💡 The "Happened in the Past" Pattern

In this story, everything is finished. To talk about things that are over, we often add -ed to the action word.

Look at these changes:

  • Happen \rightarrow Happened
  • Die \rightarrow Died
  • Play \rightarrow Played

The "Special" Words (Irregular) Some words don't follow the -ed rule. They change completely. You just have to remember them:

  • Fall (now) \rightarrow Fell (past)
  • Lose (now) \rightarrow Lost (past)
  • Find (now) \rightarrow Found (past)

Quick Guide for A2: When you see "lost his wife" or "buildings fell," the writer is telling you it is a memory, not something happening right now.
