⚡ The 'Something Happened' Pattern
In this text, we see a very common way to talk about the past. We take a word and often add -ed to the end. This tells us the action is finished.
Look at these changes:
- Happen Happened
- Stay Stayed
Wait! Some words are rebels. They don't follow the -ed rule. You just have to memorize them:
- Die Died (This one follows the rule!)
- Do Did (Rebel!)
- Get Got (Rebel!)
Why this matters for A2: If you want to tell a story about yesterday or last year, you cannot use the present.
- Wrong: "The police find bullets." (This sounds like it happens every day).
- Right: "The police did not find bullets." (This happened once in the past).
