💡 The Power of "Want"

In this story, we see a pattern for talking about desires and plans.

How it works: Person/Group \rightarrow want \rightarrow thing/action

Examples from the text:

  • Groups \rightarrow want \rightarrow to celebrate
  • America250 \rightarrow wanted \rightarrow festivals
  • Freedom 250 \rightarrow wants \rightarrow TV shows
  • Artists \rightarrow did not want \rightarrow to play music

Quick Guide:

  • Want = Today (General/They)
  • Wants = Today (One person/One group)
  • Wanted = Yesterday (Past)
  • Did not want = Yesterday (Negative past)

🛠️ Word Swap: "Big" vs "Small"

Notice how the writer uses opposites to show a conflict:

  • Big birthday / Big shows / Big fair \rightarrow Large, expensive, loud.
  • Small festivals \rightarrow Local, quiet, for everyone.
