📈 The 'Up and Down' Words

In English, we use simple words to describe if something gets bigger or smaller. Look at these pairs from the text:

Going Up (Positive)

  • Grew \rightarrow The S&P 500 grew.
  • Went up \rightarrow The stock market went up.
  • Strong \rightarrow Technology companies are still strong.

Going Down (Negative)

  • Lost money \rightarrow Energy companies lost money.
  • Went down \rightarrow Oil prices went down.
  • Fewer \rightarrow People will buy fewer electronics.

💡 Quick Tip: 'Think' for Opinions

When you want to say what you believe about a company or a person, use think:

  • "They think these companies will grow."
  • "They think these banks are too expensive."

Instead of saying "In my opinion," just say "I think..." It is the most natural way to speak at an A2 level.
