Church in San Francisco Agrees to Pay Money for Past Abuse

Introduction

The Catholic Church in San Francisco will pay $395 million. This money is for more than 500 people who were hurt as children.

Main Body

The Church has no more money to pay all the bills. They are in a legal process called bankruptcy. The money will come from schools and churches. Some donations will stay safe and will not be used.

The Church must also change. They will make a public list of bad priests. The leader, Archbishop Cordileone, must write a sorry letter to every person. People can now talk about what happened.

Other churches in the USA have the same problem. Churches in Los Angeles and Baltimore also paid a lot of money. This happens because new laws let people ask for money for old crimes.

Conclusion

A court must now say yes to this plan.
