🕒 The 'Past' Trick

To tell a story about yesterday or last year, we often just add -ed to the action word.

Look at these changes:

  • Help \rightarrow Helped
  • Arrest \rightarrow Arrested

⚠️ The 'Rule-Breakers'

Some words don't follow the -ed rule. You must memorize these because they are very common in A2 English:

NowThen (Past)
Fall \rightarrow Fell
Is/Am \rightarrow Was
Are \rightarrow Were
Build \rightarrow Built

💡 Simple Pattern

Person \rightarrow Action (Past) \rightarrow Thing

  • Police \rightarrow arrested \rightarrow two men.
  • Roof \rightarrow fell \rightarrow on a school.
