✈️ The 'Action-State' Pattern

Look at how we describe things that happened (Action) versus how things were (State).

The Action (What they did)

  • Landed \rightarrow The plane landed.
  • Sent \rightarrow The plane sent a signal.
  • Checked \rightarrow Police checked the people.

The State (How it was)

  • Broken \rightarrow The machine was broken.
  • Safe \rightarrow The people were safe.
  • Strange \rightarrow The event was very strange.

💡 A2 Tip: The 'Was/Were' Switch

When talking about the past, we use was for one thing and were for many things.

  • One person/thing: The plane was safe.
  • Many people/things: The pilots were tired.

Vocabulary Quick-List:

  • Mistake = something wrong
  • Danger = something scary
