Train Accidents in Australia and the USA

澳洲與美國的火車事故

Introduction

Two trains had accidents. One happened in Australia and one happened in the USA.

發生了兩起火車事故,一起在澳洲,另一起在美國。

Main Body

In Australia, a train part broke. Eight train cars fell off the tracks. Another train hit a container. The company did not check the trains well. Now, they do not use that train part.

在澳洲,一個火車零件損壞,導致八節車廂脫軌。另一列火車則撞上一個貨櫃。該公司先前未對火車進行妥善檢查。現在他們已不再使用該零件。

In Pennsylvania, USA, a train fell off the tracks. Many cars fell. The police told people to stay inside their homes. They did not know if the train had dangerous chemicals.

在美國賓夕法尼亞州,一列火車脫軌,許多車廂翻覆。警方要求民眾留在室內,因為當時不確定火車是否載有危險化學品。

Special teams checked the train. There were no leaks. The people could go outside again. No people were hurt in these two accidents.

專業團隊檢查後確認沒有洩漏,民眾隨後即可外出。這兩起事故均無人受傷。

Conclusion

The Australia accident happened because of bad parts. The USA accident ended safely.

澳洲事故是由於零件不良引起,而美國事故則平安結束。

The 'Did Not' Pattern

In this story, we see a very important way to say "no" in the past.

The Pattern: Did not + Action word (present form)

Examples from the text:

  • The company did not check the trains. \rightarrow (They forgot to check).
  • They did not know if chemicals were there. \rightarrow (They were unsure).

Why this helps you reach A2: Beginners often try to change the action word (like saying did not checked). Stop!

Only the word did changes to the past. The action word stays simple.

  • did not checked \rightarrow did not check \checkmark
  • did not knew \rightarrow did not know \checkmark

Quick Guide: Past No=Did not+Normal Verb\text{Past No} = \text{Did not} + \text{Normal Verb}
