New Rules for Student Loans

Introduction

The US Department of Education has new rules for student loans. These rules start on July 1, 2026.

Main Body

The government stopped the SAVE plan. Seven million people must pick a new way to pay their loans in 90 days. New students must use the RAP plan or a standard plan.

Students cannot borrow as much money now. Graduate students have a limit of $100,000. Parents can only borrow $20,000 per year for each child.

Some people get a lower interest rate if they pay automatically. Now, more students may need to borrow money from private banks instead of the government.

Conclusion

It is now harder to borrow money for school. There are fewer choices for paying back loans.
