Introduction

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said sorry for a bad thing in the past. Between 1949 and 1976, the state took children away from mothers who were not married.

Many people thought it was bad to have a baby without a husband. Because of this, the state took 185,000 babies from their mothers. Hospitals and churches helped the state do this.
