The 'Action' Bridge

Look at how we talk about things happening right now versus always.

1. The 'Is/Are' Pattern (Current State) When we describe a person's feeling or a current situation, we use is or are.

  • He is sad. \rightarrow (One person + feeling)
  • They are not happy. \rightarrow (Many people + feeling)
  • The group does not talk well. \rightarrow (The group + a bad habit)

2. The 'Has' Pattern (Possession/History) We use has to show what someone owns or how much time they spent.

  • He has worked for 45 years. \rightarrow (Time in the past until now)
  • The party has problems. \rightarrow (The party owns these problems)

Quick Guide for A2:

  • Use Is/Are \rightarrow for a photo (what you see now).
  • Use Has/Have \rightarrow for a suitcase (what they carry/keep).
