Introduction
Police in Chicago and Dayton are looking for people who shot other people in two different cities.

On Thursday, four people shot four other people at a gas station in Chicago. Two people died. A woman and a man are very sick in the hospital. The shooters ran away on foot.

🕒 Talking about the Past
In this story, we see two ways to talk about things that already happened. This is the most important step for A2 learners.
1. The Simple Action When something happened and finished, we often add -ed to the word.
- Walk → Walked
- Call → Called
Example from text: "The shooters ran away." (Note: Ran is a special word; it doesn't use -ed, but it still means the past).
2. The 'State' of Being To describe how someone was or where they were, we use was (for one person) or were (for many people).
- One person: "A woman was shot."
- Many people: "Two people were sick." (Though the text says 'are' for now, 'were' would be used for yesterday).
