💡 THE 'PAST' PATTERN

Look at how the story tells us things that already happened. In A2 English, we change the word to show the time is gone.

The Change List:

  • Go → Went (McConnell went to the hospital)
  • Say → Said (His office said he is okay)
  • Have → Had (He had a heart problem)
  • Fall → Fell (He fell and hurt his head)

Quick Rule: When you talk about yesterday or last year, don't use the normal word. Use the 'Past' version.

Example Path: Now: I have a cold. \rightarrow Past: I had a cold. Now: I go to school. \rightarrow Past: I went to school.
