💡 The 'Want' Pattern

In this story, we see a very important word: want. At A2 level, you need to know how to use it for two different things:

1. Wanting a Thing (Noun)

  • The USA wants Greenland. \rightarrow (Country + want + Place)
  • The USA wants minerals. \rightarrow (Country + want + Object)

2. Wanting an Action (To + Verb)

  • Greenland wants to stay free. \rightarrow (Place + want + to + action)
  • Canada wants to work together. \rightarrow (Country + want + to + action)

⚠️ Be Careful with the 'S'

When we talk about one person or one country (He/She/It), we add an S to the verb:

  • Wrong: The USA want... ×\times
  • Right: The USA wants... \checkmark

Quick Comparison:

  • One person: He says no.
  • Many people: They say no.
