The Great Barrier Reef is Not 'In Danger'

Introduction

UNESCO says the Great Barrier Reef is not on the 'in danger' list for now.

Main Body

Australia worked hard to stop this label. The reef is very important for money. It makes 9 billion dollars every year and gives jobs to 77,000 people. The government spent 5 billion dollars to protect the water.

But the coral is in trouble. The water is too hot. This killed many corals in 2024 and 2025. The reef can fix itself, but it is now too difficult because the ocean is too warm.

UNESCO wants more information. Australia must send a report about the water in 2028. They must send another report about nature in 2029. Australia must also stop the planet from getting too hot.

Conclusion

The reef is safe from the 'in danger' list for now. The committee will check the new reports soon.

🌍 The Power of "Too"

In this story, we see the word too used to describe a problem. When we use "too" before a word, it means more than we want.

  • Too hot \rightarrow Not just warm, but a problem for the coral.
  • Too difficult \rightarrow Not just hard, but almost impossible.
  • Too warm \rightarrow A temperature that causes damage.

📅 Talking About the Future (Must + Time)

To reach A2, you need to show what needs to happen. Look at how Australia is told what to do:

Must + Action + Year

  1. Must send \rightarrow 2028
  2. Must send \rightarrow 2029
  3. Must stop \rightarrow (The heat)

Quick Tip: Use "must" when there is no other choice!
