⏳ Talking about the Past

Look at these words from the story:

  • lived (live → lived)
  • worked (work → worked)
  • stopped (stop → stopped)
  • called (call → called)

The Secret Rule: To talk about things that already happened, we usually just add -ed to the end of the action word.

Example: They worked on their houses. (This happened in the past).

⚠️ The 'Rule Breakers'

Some words don't follow the -ed rule. You must memorize them:

  • be \rightarrow was/were ("Shawna was very hurt")
  • go \rightarrow went ("Frances went to court")
  • say \rightarrow said ("She said she was guilty")

Quick Tip: If you don't see -ed, check if the word changed its whole shape!
