⚡ Action Words: Now vs. Past

In this story, we see two ways to talk about players. One is for things happening now or usually, and one is for things that already happened.

1. The 'Finished' Action (Past) When a team already did something, we often add -ed to the word:

  • Sign → Signed
  • Want → Wanted (Wait! The text says "want" for the future, but "signed" for the past).
  • Keep → Kept (This one is special/irregular).

2. The 'Current' Action (Present) When talking about a general situation or a current problem:

  • The Ducks have a money problem.
  • The Flyers want Leo Carlsson.

🛠️ Word Building: The 'Money' Connection

Look at how these words relate to spending in the article:

Pay → To give money for work. Contract → The legal paper that says how much a player is paid. Risk → Doing something that might be a mistake.

Quick Guide:

  • Pay money \rightarrow Big contract \rightarrow Money problem
