Warm Winter in Eastern Australia

Introduction

Eastern Australia is very warm this winter. This is because of the air and a weather pattern called El Niño.

Main Body

Brisbane has the warmest start to winter in ten years. A high-pressure system over Tasmania stops cold air from the ocean. Because of this, June was very warm.

El Niño started on June 16. This pattern makes the weather warm and dry. It will likely stay warm until September.

Some people have problems. Ski resorts have no snow and lose money. Farmers need cold weather for their fruit to grow. Now, some inland areas are finally getting cold.

The weather office warns about big waves on the south-east coast. Some north areas will have a little rain.

Conclusion

Cities are still warm. Some inland areas are now cold. But the weather will stay warmer than usual for a long time.

🌡️ The 'Because' Connection

When we want to explain why something happens, we use the word because. It is like a bridge connecting a result to a reason.

How it works: [Result] \rightarrow because of \rightarrow [The Reason]

Examples from the text:

  • Warm winter \rightarrow because of \rightarrow El Niño
  • June was warm \rightarrow because of \rightarrow a high-pressure system

🛠️ Time Words (The 'Until' Limit)

To show when a situation stops, use until. This is very common for A2 learners describing schedules or weather.

  • Warm \rightarrow until \rightarrow September

(This means: Warm in June \checkmark, Warm in July \checkmark, Warm in August \checkmark, STOP in September ×\times)

📝 Word Pairings: Weather & Money
