The "Past Action" Pattern

Look at how these words change to tell us something already happened:

  • Die \rightarrow Died
  • Kill \rightarrow Killed
  • Arrest \rightarrow Arrested

The Secret: To talk about the past in English, we often just add -ed to the end of the action word.

Examples from the story:

  • "Drivers went the wrong way" (This is a special word; it doesn't use -ed).
  • "Police arrested these men" (Regular -ed pattern).

Quick Tip for A2: If you see -ed, the event is over. It is not happening now.
