Introduction

President Emmanuel Macron went to Damascus. He is the first leader from the European Union to visit since President Ahmed al-Sharaa took power in 2024.

France and Syria signed new deals. They will work together on planes, health, banks, and buildings. France also gave back 23 old art objects to a museum in Damascus.

Two bombs exploded near a hotel on July 7. Eighteen people were hurt. The Syrian government said the bombs were not near President Macron. He did not know about the bombs and continued his trip.

Syria has other bombs in the city too. President al-Sharaa wants the world to see that Syria is safe. He wants other countries to give money to Syria. But some dangerous groups are still in the country.
