許多設施停止運作。維多利亞州的火車停駛,導致數千人無法出行。商店也無法受理信用卡付款。

Some people could not call 000 for help. Police checked on 333 people to make sure they were safe. Some politicians argued about why this happened.

🕒 The 'Past' Logic

In this story, everything is finished. To talk about things that already happened, we usually add -ed to the action word.

  • Stop → Stopped
  • Check → Checked
  • Argue → Argued

Wait! Some words are rebels. Some words change completely. You have to memorize these:

  • Run → Ran (not runned)

🚫 Saying 'No' in the Past

When we want to say something did not happen, we use a magic pair: did not + base word.

  • Wrong: Did not stopped
  • Right: did not run
  • Right: could not use

Quick Tip: Once you use 'did not', the main action word goes back to its normal, present shape.
