Introduction

The government of Maharashtra started a group of seven people. This group will write a new law called the Uniform Civil Code.

Main Body

Ranjana Desai is the leader of this group. She is a retired judge. The group has six months to finish their work. The government wants to start the new law in winter.

Other states in India are doing this too. Nine states now want the same laws for everyone. However, these laws do not change for tribal people.
