Main Body

Palestine did not have these elections for a long time. The last vote was in 2006. Now, other countries like France and Saudi Arabia want new elections. These countries will give money only if Palestine changes its government.

But there are big problems. Israel must help for people to vote in East Jerusalem. If Israel says no, the vote cannot happen.

Also, Gaza is in bad shape. Many buildings are gone. People have no homes. It is very hard to organize a vote there.

Conclusion

The leader set a date for the vote, but many problems still exist.

📌 The Power of "Only If"

Look at this sentence: "These countries will give money only if Palestine changes its government."

In English, we use only if to set a strict rule. It means: "This thing happens \rightarrow but FIRST, this other thing must happen."

How to use it for A2 level:

  • I will go to the park \rightarrow only if it stops raining.
  • You can eat cake \rightarrow only if you finish your dinner.
  • We can start the movie \rightarrow only if everyone is here.

🏗️ Describing a State: "In bad shape"

The text says: "Gaza is in bad shape."

Instead of saying "it is broken" or "it is destroyed," you can use this common phrase to describe anything (a building, a car, or even a person's health) that is not in good condition.

  • My old car is in bad shape. (It is broken/dirty/old)
  • After the storm, the house was in bad shape. (It needs repairs)

Opposite: In good shape.
