Introduction

The Indian phone regulator (TRAI) and the app Truecaller are fighting. They disagree about how to stop spam calls.

Main Body

TRAI says some phone numbers are special. Numbers starting with 1600 are for the government and banks. Numbers starting with 140 are for sellers. TRAI says only the government can decide if these calls are spam.

Truecaller does not agree. The CEO says these rules help bad people. He says many people get fake calls from these special numbers. Many users block these calls every day.

Truecaller has data to show the problem. Millions of people do not answer these calls. Many users say these numbers are scams. Now, TRAI wants to punish apps that do not follow the rules.

Conclusion

TRAI wants trust in government numbers. Truecaller says the rules help scammers.
