🕒 Talking about the Past

In this story, we see how to talk about things that already happened. Most of the time, we just add -ed to the word.

The Pattern: Action → Past Action

  • Work → Worked
  • Stop → Stopped
  • Follow → Followed

The 'Rule Breakers' (Irregular): Some words change completely. You have to memorize these:

  • Can \rightarrow Could (Example: "People could not use phones")
  • Is/Are \rightarrow Was/Were (Example: "The year was 2006")
  • Say \rightarrow Said (Example: "Some people say" \rightarrow they said it)

Quick Tip: When you see -ed, you are looking at a finished event. If you see could, it's about what was possible in the past.
