Rules for Workers at Wimbledon

Introduction

The All England Club has rules for the people who work at the tennis tournament.

Main Body

Umpires use tablets for the scores. They cannot eat big meals during a match. They can drink water and eat bananas. A computer system called Hawk-Eye makes the final decisions about the ball.

The club picks ball kids from local schools. These students are 13 to 18 years old. Many people apply, but the club only chooses 280 students.

Training starts in February and ends in June. The students do not get a salary. They get a small amount of money for their costs. Some ball kids carry the bags for the final players if the players want this.

Conclusion

The tournament follows these strict rules until the final games.

⚡ The 'Can' and 'Cannot' Rule

In this text, we see how to talk about things that are allowed or forbidden. This is a key part of A2 English.

Allowed \rightarrow Use can

  • They can drink water.
  • They can eat bananas.

Forbidden \rightarrow Use cannot

  • They cannot eat big meals.

📅 Time Boundaries

Notice how the text describes a period of time. Instead of just saying 'February to June', it uses two specific verbs to show the start and the end:

  1. Starts in \rightarrow Training starts in February
  2. Ends in \rightarrow and ends in June

Quick Tip: Use this pattern for any event with a date, like a movie, a school year, or a holiday.
