A court in Delhi is looking at a group called the SC-NBWL. This group gives permission to build things in forests.

The group said yes to almost all projects from 2016 to 2026. They approved 1,810 out of 1,876 projects. Some years, they did not say no to any project. They gave away a lot of forest land for mining and roads.

The government says these projects are safe. But experts disagree. They say the group works too fast. One time, the group looked at 100 projects in only one hour. This is not enough time to study the land.

Ten people who protect nature asked the court for help. The court wants to know if the group is independent. The main board is led by the Prime Minister. This board did not meet for many years between 2012 and 2025.
