⚡ The "Action-Past" Pattern

In this story, everything already happened. To tell a story about the past, we usually add -ed to the action word.

Look at the change:

  • Happen → Happened*
  • Turn → Turned*
  • Arrest → Arrested*

⚠️ The "Rule Breakers"

Some words don't follow the -ed rule. They change completely. These are very common for A2 learners:

  • Sink → Sank* (The boat sank)
  • Are → Were* (The people were on a trip)
  • Do → Did* (Some did not wear jackets)

💡 Quick Logic

If you see -ed, it's like a time-machine taking you back to Saturday. If you see sank or were, it's still the past, just a different shape of word.
