Main Body

People use Form 6 to join the voter list. Now, they must write their parents' details on this form. This started in Bihar last year. The online system will not work if people leave this part empty.

The EC says this rule helps them find voters. It also means people do not need to show as many other papers.

Some people from the UN say the process is not clear. The EC says the law is correct. The Supreme Court also agrees with the EC.

Some people say the EC removed too many minority voters in West Bengal. The EC says this is not true. They only remove dead people or people who cannot vote. People can still ask for their names to come back.

Conclusion

The EC says the process is fair. They say parental information is necessary.
