Comparing Now and Before

In the text, we see a change in time. This is very useful for A2 students to describe changes.

The Pattern: [Past] \rightarrow [Present]

  • Before: They only needed five years.
  • Now: Some people must now live in the UK for ten years.

Simple Rule: When you want to show a difference between the past and today, use "Before" for the old situation and "Now" for the current one.

Examples from the text:

  • Old Law (1971) \rightarrow New Law (Today)
  • Five years \rightarrow Ten years

Quick Tip: Notice how "must" is used for the new rule. It shows that something is required by law.
