Introduction

The Canadian government is giving money to people for food and other basic needs. This is a new program.

Main Body

The government gives money in parts. People got a first payment on June 5. Now, they get more money every three months in July, October, January, and April. About 12 million people can get this money.

Your income decides if you get the money. The government looks at your 2024 tax papers. Single people and families with children have different income limits. For example, a single person can get $267 in the first payment. A couple with four children can get $717.

Payments will grow by 25 percent in the next five years. Single people can get up to $679 a year. Couples can get up to $890. Children under 19 get an extra $234. The government sends the money to your bank or by mail.
