The 'Action' Pattern

In this story, we see many things happening in the past. To tell a story, we change the end of the word.

The Rule: Most words just add -ed to show it already happened.

  • Lie \rightarrow Lied (He lied to the police)
  • Start \rightarrow Started (They started protests)
  • Arrest \rightarrow Arrested (Police arrested people)

The 'Rule-Breakers': Some words change completely. You must remember these:

  • Kill \rightarrow Killed (Regular)
  • See \rightarrow Saw (Irregular)
  • Become \rightarrow Became (Irregular)
  • Give \rightarrow Gave (Irregular)

Quick Guide for A2: If you want to talk about yesterday or a finished event, look at the verb. If it's a normal action, add -ed. If it's a special word like saw or gave, it changes its shape.
