Introduction

The government in Victoria has a new plan. Now, some train passengers can pay with bank cards or phones.

Main Body

The new system starts in two parts. Some train lines start on June 7. Other train lines start on June 14. Many people used phones to pay in a small test in March.

But there are problems. You can only use this for full-price tickets. People with special cheap tickets must still use myki cards. You cannot use bank cards on buses or trams yet. This will happen in 2027.

The myki system is old and slow. It cost too much money and took too much time. The government is working with a company to fix these problems, but it is very difficult.

Conclusion

Train passengers can use bank cards now. Bus and tram users must wait until 2027.

🕒 Talking about Time (Past vs. Future)

Look at how the article switches between what happened and what will happen. This is the core of A2 English.

The Past (Done)

  • Used (Many people used phones...)
  • Cost (It cost too much...)
  • Took (It took too much time...)

The Future (Not yet)

  • Will happen (This will happen in 2027)
  • Must wait (Users must wait until 2027)

Quick Logic Map: March \rightarrow Used (Past) June \rightarrow Starts (Present/Near Future) 2027 \rightarrow Will happen (Future)

Easy Tip: When you see a date in the future, use "will". When you see a date in the past, add "-ed" to most words or use the special past form (like take \rightarrow took).
