The 'Want' Pattern

In this story, we see people expressing a desire for something. This is a key building block for A2 English.

How it works: Person \rightarrow want/wants \rightarrow thing/action

Examples from the text:

  • They want a new luxury resort.
  • Jared and Ivanka want to build hotels.
  • The government wants the project.

The 'S' Rule: When talking about one person (He/She/The Government), add an -s to the word:

  • I want \rightarrow He wants
  • They want \rightarrow She wants

Pro Tip: Notice that you can want a thing (a resort) or want to do something (to build). Both are correct and very common!
