🛑 The 'Stop' Word: Did Not

Look at this sentence: "The person says they did not do it."

When we talk about the past and we want to say "No," we use did not. It doesn't matter if the action was touch, jump, run, or work. The word did not does all the heavy lifting.

The Simple Pattern: Person \rightarrow did not \rightarrow Action (Normal form)

Examples from the text and life:

  • They did not do it. (Past negative)
  • I did not see the news. (Past negative)
  • He did not go to the BBC. (Past negative)

👥 People vs. Groups

Notice how the text switches between one person and many people. This is key for A2 English:

  • One person: "This person..." / "She..." / "He..."
  • Many people: "The police..." / "Other workers..." / "Some people..."

Quick Tip: When you see "The police," treat it like a group (they), not a single person (it).

Correct: The police are checking... \rightarrow (Not is checking).
