Air Leak on the Space Station

Introduction

NASA and Roscosmos started emergency plans on June 5, 2026. They found air leaving a Russian part of the International Space Station (ISS).

Main Body

A tunnel in the Zvezda module had a hole. Air leaked out faster than before. Russian workers wanted to use a saw to fix it. NASA did not like this idea. The two groups did not agree.

Five people moved to a SpaceX Dragon ship. They wore special suits. They did this to stay safe. They could leave the station quickly if the hole got bigger.

Russian workers fixed one hole. They stopped work to study the second hole. NASA told the crew they could go back to their normal work two hours later.

The ISS is very old. It has many problems now. NASA wants to use new space stations from private companies in the future.

Conclusion

The crew is now working normally. The air pressure is stable. NASA and Roscosmos are still studying the problem together.

🕒 The 'Then' and 'Now' Shift

Look at how the story moves from the past (what happened) to the present (the current situation). This is a key skill for A2 level.

1. The Past (Completed Actions) We use simple words ending in -ed to show the problem is over:

  • Started \rightarrow They began the plan.
  • Found \rightarrow They saw the leak.
  • Moved \rightarrow They changed location.
  • Fixed \rightarrow The hole is gone.

2. The Present (Current State) We use different words to show how things are right now:

  • Is \rightarrow The ISS is old.
  • Wants \rightarrow NASA has a wish for the future.
  • Are studying \rightarrow They are doing this action at this moment.

💡 Quick Tip: If you see -ed, look backward in time. If you see is/are, look at the current moment.
