The "Past Action" Secret

Look at these words from the text: died, broke, arrested, drank.

These words tell us something happened before now. To reach A2, you need to know that most English words just add -ed to go to the past.

The Simple Pattern:

  • Arrest \rightarrow Arrested
  • Crash \rightarrow Crashed

The Rule-Breakers (Irregular): Some words change completely. You must memorize these because they don't follow the pattern:

  • Drink \rightarrow Drank
  • Break \rightarrow Broke

Quick Tip: When you see "-ed", think "Yesterday".
